Last Minute Check Before You Sell
Before you sell your home, do a last minute check of everything to make sure it looks good. This includes details such as paint, wallpaper and carpeting. Obviously you want the paint to not be peeling, the wallpaper to be clean and the carpets to look their best. You will also want to check windows and doors.
Check all of your windows to make sure they open and close easily. If not, a spray of WD-40 often helps. Make sure there are no cracked or broken window panes. If there are, replace them before you begin showing your home.
Do the same things with the doors – make sure they open and close properly, without creaking. If they do, a shot of WD-40 on the hinges usually makes the creak go away. Be sure the door knobs turn easily, and that they are cleaned and polished to look sharp. As buyers go from room to room, someone opens each door and you want to do everything necessary to create a positive impression.
For those who smoke, you might want to minimize smoking indoors while trying to sell your home. Actually, it is best to move smoking outside. You could also purchase an ozone spray that will help to remove odors rather than simply masking them. If smoking has made the walls and ceilings look yellow, repaint.
Pet odors can be very obvious to people who don’t have animals, especially dogs. If you have or have had cats that have sprayed or urinated outside their litter box, it will need to be very thoroughly and professionally cleaned. If too much got on carpets, the carpets need to be removed or replaced.
