Home Selling – Five DIY Presentation Tips
If you’re selling your home then you need it to look its best. For most buyers, the last thing they want to do when they move is to start redecorating or landscaping. Of course, there are some bargain hunters around that are looking for homes that need a little TLC. Where does your home fall – into the group requiring TLC or into the group that says “I’m complete and there’s little else needed to make it a home”? Naturally, it’s the latter that achieve the better prices. Here are five DIY presentation tips that should make selling your home a little easier.
Fresh coat of paint. Not any sort of paint. It’s summer so select lighter colors to reflect the season. If you need to make a room look bigger, lighter colors can achieve that effect.
Floors. If you have good quality timber floors, show them. Clean and polish and have them looking their best. If you have rugs everywhere, pack them away unless they really do add accent to a room.
Drapes. Put away the heavy winter drapes and hang some light and colorful drapes. Drapes can be used for good effect to highlight the outside world – especially if you have a great garden to show off.
Gardens. Talking of gardens, highlight what is in full bloom. Trim back shrubs to below window height where possible and certainly off driveways and paths. Get rid of weeds, dead flower heads, dead branches and any other untidy material. Don’t forget to plant out any empty spaces with some seasonal color.
Decorate. Add some interesting touches to your garden like benches, ornaments, water features and perhaps even stepping stones. It helps to add character and functionality to an outdoor area. Stepping stones can be particularly helpful in traffic areas where grass struggles to grow.
These are simple changes that most people can handle themselves at reasonably low expense. Yet they can add significant value to the closing price when trying to sell your home.
