Home Buying Tip – Harnessing The Power Of The Internet
The Internet has become a welcome addition to the real estate industry, and potential home buyers are finding the many home listing services a quick and easy way to find their next home. While finding your next home over the Internet is now much easier, the Internet has become a great tool for researching various neighborhoods. Nothing beats a visit in person, of course, but that doesn’t reveal information that you can use to fine tune your selection processes. Consider some of this information that can be readily found on the Internet.
- Crime statistics – it’s always interesting to note whether or not any particular neighborhood has higher than average crime stats
- School information – don’t forget to check out each school’s own web site
- Regional events – regional events can be a factor in assessing community appeal
- Employment figures – higher unemployment numbers can affect the future price of your home
- Home price trends – are homes still falling rapidly in any particular neighborhood
- Taxation – particularly the taxes and charges associated with a home purchase
- Real estate agents – you can compare the various buying agents in any given area
- Tradespeople – are there tradespeople around who can quickly help with urgent repairs?
- Recreation – the Internet is a great place to find recreational activities, especially if you have a particular activity you wish to connect with
- Shopping – general shopping, medical and other business services can be located using the Internet
By doing a search on each area of interest, you can soon gain a real feeling for a particular neighborhood. This helps to avoid any unpleasant surprises once you move in. It also makes life a little easier if you know where various services are, and how well rated they are. The Internet is far more useful than just finding your next home – it can help you find the neighborhood or town that best suits your lifestyle.

This is great advice for prospects. Could I also add that real estate agents looking for content on their blogs could also promote this information about their service areas. This would increase their authority online.

I would agree with Brandon – local blogs are a great source of local information. One can find them using the Google search box and then the drop-down menu and choose “blogs”.
