If you are about to put your home on the market, then you need to present it in the best possible light. If you are still living in the home, then life must also go on. It is the tussle between life and having a display home that can often cause a lot of friction within a home, especially if you want to sell reasonably quickly. Here are a few tips that may help you make it through the selling process while actually making your home more sale-able.

  • De-clutter – Over a period of time we tend to accumulate all sorts of things, often with the philosophy of ‘it will come in handy one day’. Well, that day has been and gone. Remember, all that clutter that isn’t being used will still have to be moved with you to a new home – do you really want to take it with you? If you do, box it and store it now. This is especially useful when it comes to kids and their toys – de-clutter them now. There will be less for them to leave around.
  • Bathrooms and kitchens - The two rooms that catch most home sellers out are the bathrooms and kitchen. Keep them clean and tidy, paying special attention to soap scum, grout, and simple things like dirty dishes and small kitchen garbage bins.
  • Curb appeal – Get out the front of your home and assess its curb appeal – if it doesn’t have any, then there is a good chance potential home viewers will leave before they even get out of their car. Use the view from the curb as your first selling point – first impressions do count.
  • Hardwood floors – Most floors just need a good cleaning. Hardwood floors can be the exception. If they don’t look great, call in an expert and have them revitalized – these are the one floor type where simple cleaning may not be enough.

Although simple, these are just some of the areas that home buyers look at. They are often the areas they complain about when deciding whether or not to buy your home. Is your home ready for sale?
