Real Estate Selling Tips – Hiring A Stager
Selling real estate in today’s market is fairly tough since there are far more sellers than there are buyers. To sell your property, you need every advantage you can gain. The question is, can a professional real estate stager help you get a better price?
First, for those who are not familiar with what a real estate staging is, a stager is a person who will come in and ‘stage’ your home so it looks at its very best. This may include hiring particular pieces of furniture to improve a feature; hiring (or buying) plants to make a garden look better, or to improve the internal look; changing drapes or blinds, again to improve the property’s appearance. In fact, there are thousands of things a stager could do to improve appearances and hopefully gain a higher price.
One problem you will face when employing a stager is that it is not a recognized profession and stagers don’t come with any recognized skills – in fact, anyone can become a stager. If you decide to employ a stager, ask around, including your real estate agent, to see if people can recommend someone who is experienced and has a good reputation.
This has still not answered the question – will a stager help you get a better price? Generally speaking, the better a property looks, the easier it is to sell. Staging has been a part of marketing for centuries for one simple reason – it does work in most cases. Your first thoughts should be whether or not you can ‘stage’ your property yourself. If you can then do it; if not then hiring a professional to do the job for you could be the right solution. You will need to look at costs. It is no good spending $5000 if you either fail to sell the property, or if the only offers you receive are those at the lower end of the scale.
When selling real estate, the better your property looks the easier it is to sell. Whether you use a stager or do it yourself will never guarantee a better price. It could make the difference between selling soon rather than later and that does represent money.
