Tips For Finding Good Real Estate Agents
The real estate industry is no different than most other services – you will find poor real estate agents and you can find good real estate agents. The problem is, how do you find a good real estate agent? Perhaps these tips may help.
- Attend open houses and talk to the real estate agent present. Use it as an informal interview. You will be surprised at how much information you can gather. Be careful – just because you ‘click’ doesn’t make them a good real estate agent – they are trained to sell themselves as well.
- Drive around and sign watch. Which real estate agents signs predominate? Again, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are ‘good’, they may just be highly active.
- If you are looking to buy outside your area, find a real estate agent in your area that you trust and ask them for a referral.
- Newspapers. Look for real estate agents that have large listings. These are costly and poor real estate agents often forgo this form of advertising to cut costs.
- Interviews. Visit a real estate agent in their offices and interview them. Ask them about their history, particularly in the area you are looking to buy.
- Online search. Enter the real estate agent’s name into a search engine using inverted commas for an exact search. Don’t stop at page one, look at page two and three of the search results to see if there are any positive or negative reviews. You may also find interesting tidbits like newspaper or TV interviews and references.
On their own, each of these may mean very little, but as you put each one together you will start to paint a picture. If the picture starts to look negative then look at another real estate agent. If the picture looks positive then chances are you have one of the many good real estate agents at work in the area where you are looking to buy.
