Home Buying Guide For First Timers
If you’re new to home buying then I have no doubts you are filled with both excitement and apprehension. It’s only natural. After all, you are about to make the biggest commitment of your life, buy the most expensive item in your life (unless you’re into expensive collectibles) and join millions of others as property owners. This is just a short guide on how you should approach your home buying activities.
Research – you are reading this so you have made a great start. The more research you can do, the better your search will be. Research the market, the area, lending providers and real estate agents.
Personnel – talk to the right people and this includes engaging a buyer’s agent. However, don’t be too quick to find an agent. Again, do your research and find an agent that will act on your behalf, an agent that is respected, and an agent that has a proven track record.
Search – search is different than research. Research is simply fact finding. Search is finding your soon to be new home. The MLS is a great database and it will pay to find, and learn to use, a good search tool. We recommend the The Best Home Search Ever as an MLS search tool.
Patience - it is a buyer’s market which means there are far more properties available for sale than there are buyers. You can afford to wait and really check out everything within your price range. This means you are more likely to find the ‘right’ home at a good price.
If you can develop those four areas, you will find that home buying, even for a first time home buyer, becomes a breeze with little in the way of stress. Home buyers under stress often make poor decisions so keep those stress levels at minimum – oh, and good luck too.
